Havoc

This is worth watching for Joseph Gordon-Levitt's hilarious performance alone. Freddy Rodriguez is pretty distracting if you've ever watched Six Feet Under, though.

Gozu

This is really freaking bizarre, but what else do you expect out of Miike? It's also a fairly entertaining ride, and the ending is pretty funny.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Bah. All of the songs were abominable, and they spent way too much time singing them. I feel like there were 30 minutes of story, and another 90 of pointless singing.

I do love Burton's style, but most of it was almost too dark here. The actors were excellent and I suppose the ending wasn't too bad.

The Eye

Ugh. Pathetic. There are maybe two scary scenes in the entire movie. Probably a worthwhile watch if you like Ghost Whisperer.

Stephen King's It

Compared to the book, this pretty much sucked. I'd love to see what they could do with it now. I demand to see the space turtle that sicked up the universe!

The overall style of it was also terrible. But, all that aside, Tim Curry does a pretty good job with Pennywise.

11:14

This movie is great. The events come together perfectly and Rachel Leigh Cook is stunning. It starts out comedic, but winds up being a strong cautionary tale against doing the wrong thing.

The Matrix Revolutions

This redeemed the series for me. I like how they spent more time in the real world than in the matrix, and it was more gruesome than I was expecting.

Session 9

Freaking creepy, and the fact that it was shot in an actual mental hospital that had really been abandoned for over 15 years makes it even better. Oddly enough, though, I think it would've been scarier without the added "supernatural" element.

The Matrix Reloaded

One word: boring. Action, plot, costumes, everything. It tried way too hard to be flashy, and the only interesting part is the last 15 minutes.

Hitman

Empty and lame. Robert Knepper is the best part of the entire thing.

2013 edit: Seriously, Timothy Olyphant was the star of this movie? Who knew?

Paris, je t'aime

This was hard to get into because the first few stories are about meeting and nothing else, and I felt like they weren't complete. It turned out alright, though, with lots of recognizable people. The best exchange in the movie is when someone asks Natalie Portman's character if she's an actress. Answer: "I'm trying to be one."

Hot Fuzz

The first half was great, but it lost something when it switched to action and dragged on for far too long

Zodiac

Despite the fact that this version is much better than The Zodiac, I didn't nearly fall asleep during The Zodiac like I did while watching this. The aesthetics here are more interesting, as is the tack of focusing less on the killings and more on the people affected by them. It also has a more solid, satisfying ending.

Fearless

The first half of this movie is hard to watch because Jet isn't terribly believable as an idiot. However, the action is excellent and it manages to be quite poignant by the end.

Reign of Fire

Bale and McConaughey are both pretty awesome in this. I don't see why everyone says it's terrible.

2013 edit: Props to McConaughey for keeping that name when he went into film. Geez.

Sweet Land

Alan Cumming is awesome, and as far as I could tell, Elizabeth did an amazing job with all the accents and languaes. The soundtrack is innovative and fits the movie perfectly.

1408

Cusack is fun, but the surfing thing was really stupid (and not in the short story).

30 Days of Night

There can't be much story here and I didn't like Josh's performance, but other than that this movie definitely delivers, especially in the gruesome department.

Knocked Up

This had its moments, but mostly the lead was completely un-likable and the ending was unrealistic and full of lame. Ben's friends were the best part.

The Zodiac

I watched this for an hour before I began to seriously question my assumption that it involved Jake Gyllenhaal. It wasn't bad, but of course there can't be a satisfying ending.

Virtuosity

Crowe enjoyed this role way too much.

Johnny Mnemonic

Gibson did a great job writing this screenplay. The costuming/art direction was good too, but Keanu's terrible acting nearly ruined all of it.

28 Weeks Later

This world is great. I think this movie was just as good as the first one. I liked the family theme, and the awesome music works just as well here as it did originally. I didn't like the ambiguous ending as much, though.

Waterworld

Not the best movie ever, but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, either. Rather reminiscent of Mad Max.

Blades of Glory

I loved this movie. It's simple, funny, and parts of it are actually clever. The ending was a little embarrassing, though.

The Number 23

Tombstone

This felt really lackluster, almost hackneyed. As always, Val can make any character awesome.

Willow

Val should've played the role of Willow, and Warwick should've been Madmartigan. Just a suggestion.

The music was way overbearing/ridiculous, but other than that it wasn't too bad. I enjoyed the original names, and of course Val made the movie a thousand times better just by being in it.

Dead Silence

The beginning is terrible, but after that it manages to be perfectly modern while retaining, as someone who worked on it put it, "all the touchstones of horror."

The Chumscrubber

Feels empty and contrived, but still manages to be interesting. Also: yay Ralph Fiennes.

Tarnation

Tough to sit through, both for the boring bits and the disturbing ones, but still interesting.

Animatrix

Not really vital or even helpful in understanding the movies, but rather something to be appreciated simply as art.

The Matrix

Completely engaging and absolutely unbeatable.

Green Street Hooligans

Elijah Wood's eyes are disturbing.

Pan's Labyrinth

Excellent companion piece to The Devil's Backbone.

The Lost Boys

Who knew Jack Bauer was ever this cute?

Breach

The Missing

Phantoms

Unzipped

Quite possibly the only movie during which I've ever fallen asleep, if that tells you anything.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Joyeux Noel

Hide and Seek

Gerry

Casey Affleck may be cute, but him walking around the desert does not a movie make.

Blood Diamond

Ravenous

Infection

If you want a real horror movie, watch an Asian one.

Pump Up the Volume

Blue Velvet

Truly bizarre.

Zardoz

Just look at Sean Connery in this movie and tell me you don't want to watch it. I was surprised to see that it actually has a plot.

The Devil's Backbone

Eulogy

Not nearly as funny as it's supposed to be.

Dracula

Very Bad Things

Very bad movie.

Memoirs of a Geisha

Young Adam

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

Why, Uma, why?

The Last Kiss

Jackass Number Two

Ichi the Killer

I love a lot of things about this movie, especially Kakihara's outfits, and of course the smoke thing.

Delicatessen

Three Kings

Va Savoir

Takes a while to get going, but it picks up.

Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story

The movie they were making is more interesting than the movie that was made.

Talladega Nights

Titus

Stranger Than Fiction

A bit of a let-down.
